Parent Letter-

Welcome to the 2008 - 09 school year.  All of the courses I teach are one semester in length and are listed in the pairs how they will be offered.  The courses I will be teaching this year are:  Agriscience/Intro to Horticulture; Environmental Resources/Natural Resources; Turfgrass Mgmt/Leadership; and Nursery Landscape Mgmt/Greenhouse Mgmt.  I am looking forward to an outstanding year here at Blytheville High School.  In order for this to happen, your child needs you to be involved in their education.

I also serve as the FFA Advisor.  FFA is the student organization associated with Agriculture courses and is an integral, necessary part of all agriculture courses.  In order for your child to get the most out of his/her time in my classes, FFA membership is strongly recommended.   FFA offers numerous opportunities for your child to apply knowledge being learned in the classroom, develop leadership skills necessary to be successful later in life, and learn skills vital to career success.  Membership dues are $20 payable by Sept 29th.  We do have an activity whereby dues can be earned.  More information about this activity will be given to your child during the first days of class.

As we all know, education is a two way street.  Teachers have to be prepared and provide high quality instruction and classroom management.  Students have to be prepared to participate and be receptive of information being presented.  Parents also have a duty and responsibility in this process.  Yours is to be sure your child is in school on time with a cooperative attitude.  The more you are involved in your child’s education, the easier this process is for everyone.

Feel free to drop by anytime, (please remember to check in at the office), and see what is going on.  You may contact me by contacting the school to set up a conference.  My conference period is from 2:30 to 3:15.   There may be times when your assistance is needed with FFA activities and I will be contacting you, usually through your child.  In order for this organization to succeed, volunteers are needed from time to time, so any assistance in this area will be greatly appreciated.  Don’t worry; I do know how to ask.

I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the year.
